The mother wdc shot ,'ic ri-'C;. and ‘’orrioly mutilated. Maud was also shot in the neck. The others’ heads were smashed in. A search revoaleo the bodies of the other children—Teddy (10) and Dolly (8) —tlin e-quarters of a mile from the house.

It is supposed tliey were seen on return from school by the murderer, and enticed away and shot. Their schoolbags were found on the kitchen table.

The bodies in the house had been huddled together, and covered with a table cloth, and the table placed on top. Ching states that lie left a Cingalese} evidently a servant, at home when he went to. the township. On returning he found the house locked, and he thought the family were visiting neighbours; He had tea with the Cingalese,.in the kitchen, which is separated from Hie house. He v.mt to neighbours, a'hd failing to find the family, became alarmed. He returne I and searched the house with the Cingalese, and made the terrible discovery. When he tried to communicate with town he found the telcotnne wires cut, orobably by the mnr lo 'er.
