FIRE IN AUCKLAND.
A WAREHOUSE DESTROYED. (Per Press Association ! Auckland, November 17. At eleven o’clock last night a fire occurred at Macky, Logan, and Caldwell’s warehouse, in Victoria and Darby Streets. By 1.30 a.m. the premises were completely gutted, and some adjoining premises badly damaged. The flames were seen by a hoarder at tho Royal Hotel to suddenly shoot through the roof of the warehouse. The alarm was given direct to the Central Brigade, who Arrived very smartly with their Tiill strength, and then the plant. A quarter of an hour later the whole.warehouse was aflame from end to etui, and from top to bottom. In , half van hour the warehouse was a roaring furnace. It appeared that only by, a miracle could the City Chamber and the block adjoining bo saved from destruction. With the fall of the roof there was a fresh rush of flame, and the fire gained a hold on Holdsworth and Son’s hoot factory, hut the firemen succeeded in suppressing the flames there, and before long had the outbreak reduced to a pile of smoldering ruins.
