TERRITORIALS.

SWEARING-IN AT STRATFORD. The men at all the chief Taranaki centres have now been sworn in, this having been done at New Plymouth, Hawera, Elt ham, Stratford, Patea, Waverley, Waitara and Inglewood. The Stratford men were sworn in at the Town Hall last night by Colonel Malone, Limits. Wilson, James, and Crawshaw and Captain Carbery, Captain Lampon and Sergeant-Major Dallinger being in charge of arrangements. Altogether i6O men were sworn in, the work being done expeditiously. The men present made a good show, none looking like what is recognised as a raw recruit. Alter the swearing in had been completed Col. Malone addressed the men. He likened the country to a football team. If a football team was defeated there were those who would at once say, “It serves them right; they wore not trained!” The same would lie said of a nation which took the field and was beaten; but New Zealand was taking steps to escape the reproach. To-day Captain Whyte, brigade major, and Sergeant-Majors Dunham and Dallingcr are at Kaponga attending to to swearing in. Those in charge of the Territorial movement express pleasure at the manner in which the scheme has been received by all concerned, cordial support being extended at all centres. Swearing in was carried out at Eltham last night by Captains Whyte and Cardale and Sergenat-Major Dunham. STUDYING EM PLOY ERS.

Captain Dampen, officer in charge of the area, expresses great satisfaction with tlie mcm sworn in last night the correct military instinct seeming to be present in all. He appreciates fully the support given the scheme by the men themselves, but is afraid that in the early stages of the scheme difficulties may arise as regards the fixing of time for parades. For this reason he would like to have the opinions of employers, and would welcome any suggestions on the matter.
