THE ELECTRIC LIGHT LOAN PROPOSAL.
Mr P. Skoglund, Town Clerk of Stratford, has, been officially notified that the application' made to the N.Z. state Guaranteed Advances Departnent for a loan of £14,000 for purchasing the Electrical Supply Co.’s .vorks, will not .be entertained by the Department. A special meeting of die Borough Council will therefore be ■ leld next Monday evening to consider die matter. It is understood that :ho Department has declined several similar applications on the ground that it does not desire to lend money to local bodies for commercial purposes.
Mr John Leydon, the well-known upholsterer and house furnisher, is the successful tenderer for furnishing the Egmont Club’s line new premises in Broadway North. The Government Meteorologist telegraphed this after noop : —Southerly node-rats to strong winds, backing to westerly; weather probably cool and diangoable; glass rise slowly.
