CHURCH TREASURE STOLEN. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Press Association.) (Received 16, 9.25 a.m.) Brussels, November 15. The church treasure at Stavelot, known as Saint Remade, has been stolen, including brasswaro and enamels valued at £40,000.
A BALLOON JOURNEY. (Received 16, 8.5 a.m.) St. Petersburg, November 15. Two French aeronauts, Bicname and Riiinpelmaber, attempted a balloon journey, from Compeiguc to St. Petersburg. A gale, drove them over the Baltic Sea and forced them to land at Courland. They covered seventeen hundred milometers in sixteen and a half hours.
CANADIAN PARLIAMENT. (Received 16, 12.10 p.nr.) Ottawa, November 15. The-members of the new Parliament have been sworn in. Dr. SprOnle will be Speaker.. The official opening will be a scene of unexampled splendour.
THE DUKE OF CONNAUGHT. (Received 16, 12.10 p.ra.) Ottawa, November 15. Special recognition was given to Consul-Generals at the Vice-regal drawing-room. The Duke of Connaught also took steps to arrange special presentations in the Speaker’s room before the ordinary drawing-room is held. PACIFIC ISLANDS PURCHASED. (Received 16, 12.10 p.m.) Honolulu, November 15. Canadian and British capitalists are reported to have purchased Fanning and Washington Islands for £70,000. A wealthy missionary previously owned the islands. , BOYS FOR NEW ZEALAND. (Received 16, 10.20 a.m.) London, November 15. Mr Sedgwick is holding a number of meetings emphasising the success of his movement for the emigration of boys to New Zealand. THE KING AND QUEEN. (Received 16, 10.20 a.m.) Gibraltar, November 15. The Medina has sailed from here for the East. SHAKESPERIAN COLLECTION SOLD. (Received 16, 10.20 a.m.) London, November 15. The “Evening Times” states that Huth’s famous Shakosperian collection has been privately sold for £20,000. TELEGRAPH COMPANY’S BONUS. (Received 16, 10.20 a.m.) November 15. The Eastern Telegraph Company lias allotted to all employees a bonus of a month’s pay, totalling £24,49,2. FRENCH POWDER SCANDALS. (Received 16, 10.20 a.m.) Paris, November 15.
