THE ELECTRIC LIGHT QUESTION.
(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir, —Hermit me, through your valuable columns, to express, surprise at the attitude taken lip by,his Worship the Mayor in regard to the. publishing of the report brought.. before . the Council re taking, over the ..electric Tight. It was clearly understood by all those of your readers with whom I have discussed the matter that the report supposed to be drawn up by Messrs Masters, Sangster and Ward, but apparently drawn up by Mr Masters alone, Was to be published as soon as the . valuers . had completed their labours'." And now his Worship starts to quihlo oyer “a” report being , published—not'lj“the n report. Why,is this? Surely not the weak excuse that the ratepayers would bo misled. Mr Masters would do well to remember thatthe ratepayers can think for them 7 solves, and as they are the people who have to pay all the proceedings should bo laid bare before them. Then as regards the £4000; goodwill. Why is Cr. lying so Anxious that the ratepayers should pay £6OO a year goodwill for the, concern when their l)alanee-sheet' can only show a profit of £SOO per annum ? Is he, as a councillor, working in the best interests of the ratepayers P Then, again, the valuers place £IOOO as the value of the present machinery, and then add that “though still in good order it may possibly prove ' advisable to discard diem.” Do the Council Think',that" the ratepayers are going to pay £4OOO goodwill -and '•then £IOOO for what bey are practically advised by presumably experts that it might be nettor to “scrap.” Then the electric light leases: What guarantee -have wo that tjiose leases, which 'expire in about four, years, can lie renewed ■ and On what ■ terms ? Many ratepayers like myself would bo very glad if his Worshipper his right hand .man Cr. King—would give us a ■ little ■i'n'ore real light on these questions. Apologising for trespassing on your space, 1 am, etc.,' "-- ■' ■■ ■ < YET MORE LIGHT. Stratford, November lith.
