MR. HINE'S WORK.

(To the Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir, —As some of Mr McCluggago’s misguided friends are proclaiming the loss to the Stratford electorate through not being represented by a nominee of the so-called “Libeml Administration” in regard to votes for expenditure upon public works, I wish to state that 1 am more than satisfied with the success of the present member, Mr Mine, in this matter. In supports of my contention 1 shall quote admissions from leading members of the present party in power. During-'the discussion upon Public Works expenditure during last session Mr McDonald, Junior Government Whip, said among other things: “The amount on the Estimates ,though the Leader of. the Opposition had said that votes were granted where they were not wanted, was just about one-fourth what had been applied for by the various county councils. No one could say that Mr Hine was a supporter of the Government. He would ask Mr Hine to v say if there had ever been more mchi employed in his district than at present on public works. A member: This is election year. Mr Jennings: How many have I got ? Mr Macdonald: “You are a Government supporter I” Ho concluded that to him it seemed that Opposition districts were bettor treated than those that, returned Government supporters. Mr Jennings complained that North Taranaki was the Cinderella of the road districts. It had frequently been robbed by the adjoining district, represented' by the member for Stratford. Therefore although Mr Hine has not been backward in his first and principal duty, that of representing the people, of this Dominion ; I think the electors will agree he has ably represented his district. Thanking you in anticipation, 1 am, etc., AN ELECTOR. Stratford, October 24th.
