There was a north-west wind blowing, and it veered to the south-west with such suddenness that nothing could ho done to avert the accident. The men on hoard, Trogidga (master) and .MeNah, had a narrow' escape, clinging to the keel for two hours, with the waves breaking over them. Later the dinghy, whi;h sank when the ketch capsized, came to the surface, and they were able to secure it. It was broken and leaking badly, hut they managed io effect rough repairs with articles of clothing, and, using two planks for paddles, succeeded in reaching Motuoka.
