HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board was held yesterday morning. Present': Messrs Marfell (chairman), Maxwell, CJiristofell, Marchaut and McAllister. Reports. Tiie Medical Superintendent reported : During October 7 patients were admitted, !) discharged, 8 died, and 9 remain. Seven operation? were performed during the month. The Matron reported: 1 engaged a now cook, commencing duties from Ist hist., also a wardsman, who started duty on October Ist. The gardener reported : The grounds and gardens are in pretty good order. The rough cold weather is much against the growth of the young vegetables. The old winter vegetables are now getting scarce, with the exception of cauliflowers. There is not much to choose from for a week or two yet. The side gate at the morgue still wants attending to. The Sanitary Inspector reported on having visited several premises in Stratford and made necessary recommendations for their improvement.— Referred to the Borough Council. General. Messrs Spence and Stanford forwarded the title and agreement in connection with, the isolation ward kite.—-Received. The Chief Postmaster, New Plymouth, wrote stating that following on the Board’s application a letterbox was to be erected as near the hospital gate as possible. It would bo cleared at 7 a.m., 1 p.m., and o p.m.—Postmaster to ho thanked. The Inspector-General wrote: I would be glad if you would inform me as soon as possible of any persons suffering from consumption who seek treatment at your hospital within one year of their arrival in the Dominion, so that it will he possible to take measures under the immigration Restriction Act. I would point out that the sooner you notify the arrival of these cases the easier it will be to enforce the provisions of the Act.—Received.
