WHANGAMOMONA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

We ure being favoured with beautiful weather. The road's arc drying fast, and shearing will soon bo general. . A public meeting was held, on i ucsday night to consider the formation of the Tennis Club. Mr. Fawkner was elected to the chair, and explained the objects of the club, giving, also, a resume of the work done up to date. A strong committee was then formed, with Mr. W. H. Reader as secretary and treasurer, under whose guidance the club may be assured of a successful season. The work of laying cut the courts has already commenced, a, working-bee turning the old Domain reserve into a “thing of beauty and a joy for ever.” The monthly . School Committee meeting was hold on Wednesday night, when the recent examination report was very favourably commented on. We are justly proud of our school teachers and committee, but-we: hold a real grievance against the “powers that bo” for not providing more adequate accommodation for the pdpils. Seventy children crowded into a school built to hold forty is simply scandalous. The Whangamomona annual sports meeting is to be held on Boxing Day, the programme being on much the same lines as last year. About £BO will be offered in prize money, so entries should come in freely for all events. A thoroughly sporting committee has been set up to arrange details and maintain the high standard of our annual fixture. The first meeting of the newlyformed Domain Board was held last evening, at which several important matters relative to the improvement of the public Domain, were discussed. Mr. Geo. Watt, who gashed his arm badly last week while cutting up beef at Messrs. Court and Cottier’s, is under the doctor’s care at Stratford, and is progressing favourably. The County Council election takes place on Wednesday, the Bth inst., three candidates being nominated for the two seats in the Central Riding— Messrs. W. Bacon, W. A. McCutchan, and T. Davis, and there, is every indication ol the contest being a keen one. Mr. J. Anderson, one of the retiring members, has decided not to seek rnelection, but his colleague, Mr. T. Davis, is as keen as ever. Mrs. Dean has her well-known team of fawn pugs entered for 21 classes in the coming Wanganui Dog Show, and Mr. L. Klee is sending 3ns mahv-ticketed team down, also.’
