THE PREMIER EXPRESSES SOME VIEWS.

Christchurch, November 5. The Prime Minister and Hon. J. A. Millar visited the Industrial Exhibition yesterday morning. They wore entertained by the exhibition executive, and Sir Joseph Ward, responding to the toast/ of the Government, stressed the importance of keeping before the public the excellent work done by New Zealand workers. The Government recognised that at some time it would require to reconsider the tariff affecting the importation .of certain articles which had a detrimental effect on local industries and the employment of New Zealand workmen. Ho referred to the iron industry, as one which the Government would like to do something for. Referring to the Tourist Department, lie said it was earning £20,000 annually, and ho looked forward to the time when it would repay out of profits the whole expenditure incurred in connection with it.
