The A.R.C. spring meeting is being continued to-day in fine weather, though light rain fell during the early morning. Results: — Hunters' Steeplechase.—Webfoot 1, Riro-Atu 2, Harkaway 3. Scratched: Golburne, Haucere, and Pukuwera. Webfoot and Blue Mountain raced together till the latter fell at the last fence. Won comfortably by four lengths. Time, 6min 32sec.
Gordon Handicap.—Bogey 1, Recipe 2, Haronoa 3. Won easily by two lengths. Time, Imin 2 2-sscc. Manukau Hurdles.—Delegate 1, Don Quex 2, Sol 3, Scratched: Pre-
sently. Delegate was in front all the way, winning by four lengths. Time,
3m in 22see. King Edward Memorial.—Sontoria I, Master Wairiki 2, Ngapuka 3. Scratched: Flying Sonlt, Master Wairiki led to within a short distance of the post where Soultoria came through md snatched victory by a neck. Time, 2min 42sec. CHRISTCHURCH MEETING. Christchurch, November 4. The weather is dull and threatening, (nit there is a great attendance. Results:— Spring Hurdles.—Espartero 1, Idealism 2, Hawick 3. Scratched: Wingman and Dan Lono. Wellington. November 4. Ihe following prisoners were sentenced by the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court: "Walter Henry Maistem, breaking, entering, and theft, sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and declared to be an habitual criminal; Herbert Metford, theft from a dwelling, eighteen months, with two years’ reformative treatment; John Keogh, theft from a dwelling, similarly sentenced. Henry Edward. Whiteman and Leonard Edwards, who had admitted charges of arson and breaking and entering and theft, were admitted to probation for two years. Accused wore ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, and not io enter a public house for two years, or ho se n taking alcoholic liquor. The offence was attributed to drunkenness, though accused stated that they had not been diunkards m the ordinary sen>e.
