JERSEY CATTLE.
The farmers of Taranaki have come to recognise that only bj; having the very host stock can their properties he made to pay by dairying. This has given a great impetus to the breeding and importing of _ pedigree cattle, and the breed most in favour is the Jersey. One has only to look up some of the world’s records to prove the wisdom of this choice. Primrose 1., the famous Australian Jersey cow, gave 441 b 2foz of butter in seven days, far surpassing the great cow Eva, whose record was 4.281 hof churned butter in twenty-four hours. New Zealand’s record for a dairy cow is hold by that famous Taranaki-hred Jersey, Grannie’s Girl, who gave 791 lh of commercial butter in 365 days. At the sale which Mr Newton King is holding at the Waiwakaiho yards on Friday next many of the progeny and relatives of these great cows will lie offered, notably amongst those being Stevenson, a son of Grannie, well known in Taranaki, and brother to Grannie’s Girl; Liryclear Lad; recently imported from Australia by Mr W. j. Rail, of Matatoke, Thames Valley (this hull and his relatives have taken more first prizes and championships than any other beast in the Southern Hemisphere) ; Marie’s Eminent, by the great hull Eminent’s Fontaine, imported from America ; and others too numerous to mention. A glance at the pedigrees of these animals, in which beasts with great milking records may he seen, will convince anyone of their sterling worth. Catalogues giving full particulars may he obtained from the auctioneer.
