FIRST DAY

The Manawatu spring show opened to-day in fine though windy weather. Tne attendance, as usual on a first day, was not largo. Judging was confined to home’ industries and pigs. There were not numerous entries in the latter, section, but the quality was remarkably good, particularly in Berkshires and Yorkshires. Championship awards were as follows: Berkshire boar, J. H. Sellars (Okaiawli) ; sow, Porirua Mental Hospital. Middle and small Yorkshires.—Boar, P. J. Small (Kairanga); sow, W. Sa tinder son (Pa 1 mer st on).

Large Yorkshire boar, P. J. Small (Kairanga); Large black Devons, boar and sow, E„ Weekos (Awapuni). Numerous competitions wore held during the day. The shoeing competition was won by !). Donoginio (Wellington); best genltemau rider, Alex. Mitchell (Manaia); bareback rider, D. A. Bennett (Awahun); driving, H. Roberts (Feilding); ladies’ pony turnout, Mrs Goring. Johnston; harness horse, pace or stylo, R. T. jSanson; maiden hunters, Ernest Short.

RUTTER-FAT COMPETITION RESULTS.

Palmerston North, November 2. There is beautiful weather for the second day of the Show, and a lame attendance of town and country visitors. The Governor was present and officially opened the fixe arm The champion butter-fat competition was won by AV. I. Lovelock’s Lady of Cliff side (Holstoin-Ericsian). The cow produced 257. V lbs of milk. 3.7 test, 7251 bs bntter-fat. A. H. Halcoinbe’S cow was second (117.)1bs milk. 4.5 test, 7521bs bntter-fat), and S.- R. Lancaster’s third (154 Albs milk, 4.67 test, 1071bs butter-fat).
