One of the Auckland Court’s old identities, Welter White, failed or.ee again when called on at a recent sitting to fill in his earnings and expenditure sheet to the satisfaction of the Magistrate, but at the same time lie had an explanation. “My eyes arc had,” he said, “and these glasses of mine aren’t strong enough. When I read the ‘Star’ for a couple of minutes, at night they begin to water.” “Well,” said Mr. Kettle, “that’s unforunato, to be sure, but I want to remove all obstacles and excuses. I’ll get you a new pair of glasses.” ' At tliis White did not show any particular enthusiasm, but, nevertheless, he said a now pair of spectacles might do his eyesight good. “All right,” concluded his Worship, “come to my office to-morrow morning, and I w ; ll see that your eyes are examined.” Moanwhile the case was adjourned.
