As evidencing the remarkable manner in which the introduction of the Romney strain has strengthened the constitution of sheep in the Hawke’s Bay district, a settler who Inis had upwards of twenty years’ close experience with freezing works, states that before the advent of the hardy denizens of the marshes it was quite the average thing to have about throe sheep in every ton condemned on account of pulmonary complaints. At the present time, lie stated, it waa very rarely a carcase had to bo condemned for tin's reason, and the improvement in constitution was almost entirely due to the introduction of the Romney strain. Now Jersey has a now law, which went into effect on July last, aimed against the trimming of hats with plumage of rare wild birds. In part the Statute reads:—“No person shall, within the limite of this State, kill or catch or have in his or her possession, living or dead, any wild bird other than a game bird, or purchase, offer, or expose for sale any such wild bird after i t has been killed or caught, and no part of the plumage, skin, or body of any bird protected by this 1 section shall bo sold or had in possession for sale.”
