o NEW SCALE OF PAY

Auckland, October 31. Sir John Findlay states that Cabinet has approved of a new scale of pay for the police, which provides for an increase of constables’ minimum pay to 8s a day, with increments of 6d a day every three years until the maximum of is 6d is reached. Long-ser/ice constables will receive an additional 6d after fourteen years, and a further 6d after twenty years. The pay of officers and non-commissioned officers is to be considered later. Sir John Findlay is now considering a system of furnishing officers of the force with houses. At present some are renting, and others are living in houses provided by the State. He .proposes to make the system uniform.

Sir John Findlay and his family have gone into residence in Parnell.
