ALLEGED CARGO BROACHING.
WATERSIDE WORKERS CHARGED

Alfred Nelson, Donald McPherson, Anton Olsen, John Hindle, William Young, Fred L. Backhouse, James Wright, and Harry Douglas appeared before Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with stealing 251bs of Havelock tobacco, valued at £7 10s, the property of the Union Steamship Company. In asking for a remand until Wednesday, Chief Detective Broberg said tho offence was alleged to have taken place on board the steamer Moana yesterday wmle discharging operations were in progress. A box of tobacco was found to have been pillaged, and when detectives searched accused, who were all working in the hold in which the tobacco was stored, seven were found to have tobacco in their possession. A remand was granted, bail being allowed oacli accused in tho sum of £lO and two sureties of £2O.
