INDUSTRIAL UNREST.

ENGLISH DOCK TROUBLES

(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) (Received 30, a.m.) London, October 29. There is serious congestion in tho London docks as a result of the August strikes. Four hundred truck loads yesterday were turned back at tho Albert Docks because no ships were ready. Ship-owners blame tiio dock authorities for not employing more hands, and state that many ships leaving were half filled. The dockers are more dilatory since the strike. ' _ The Industrial Council has ranged a meeting for November 7th between Houlder Bros, and the Newport dockers’ representatives, to discuss a settlement. The Swansea dockers have decided to work the Hornby Grange, but will not handle other Houlder vessels until a settlement has been effected. SYDNEY WHARF STRIKE.. A CONCILIATORY SPIRIT. BOATS RUNNING TO SCHEDULE. Sydney, October 29. Tho Moeraki took little cargo beyond small consignments of fruit. The coastal steamship owners discussed Mr. Carmichael’s proposal that they should act as stevedores. The Association is anxious for the men to resume under, the existing agreement, and is prepared to overlook any breaches of agreement, but any arrangement for paying extra wages is a matter for the Government to determine in the interests of the public. If tho men desire a conference tho Association is prepared to meet them. (-■

Union officials state they are setting their faces against an extension of the strike, and are endeavouring to keep the men at work. All boats are running in accordance with the agreement between the wharf labourers and the companies.
