AMUSEMENTS.

SOCIAL AND DANCE. Despite the rough weather last night, about twenty couples were present at the Parish Hall, on the occasion of the social and dance promoted by the Orchestral Society to entertain those ladies and gentlemen who had given the society help during the past season. Proceedings were opened by the orchestra, who gave the overture to “Pique Dame” (Snppa) in good style. They also played the Hungarian March “Torok Magyar” (de Reader), and, by special request, later on in the evening, the intermezzo “Sunset” (Matt). Mr. Wilkie gave a song in his usual excellent fashion. Dancing was indulged in between the musical item and was kept up until half past twelve, a most enjoyable time being spent by those present. In view of the small attendance consequent on tho had weather, it is probable that the society will repeat the social in about a fortnight’s time. SKATING CARNIVAL. Owing to a very wet night only a fair number of skaters and onlookers were present at the Town Hall last evening. Those who braved the elements were amply rewarded by the entertainment that was placed before them. The fancy dress and poster costumes made a splendid display and the judges (Messrs Mullen and Do-, herty) had a hard task in placing the winner. The half-mile championship was one of the most interesting events and brought out a large number of competitors. Special mention must bo made of the various clowns, ’their antics being the fun of the evening. The music was supplied by the Stratford Municipal Band, and was rendered in amost creditable manner, and considerably enlivened the evening’s entertainment. The floor management was in the capable hands of Mr 'l'. Wilson. Tho following is the list of prize winners and fancy costumes:—Best ladies’ fancy dress, Miss Cargill, “Bat” ; best gent’s fancy dress, Mr S.
