DOWN SOUTH. . ; (Per Press Association.) Greymouth, October 24. The weather being experienced here is fearful. Rain has fallen unceaseingly • since eleven last night. The river has, been steadily rising since morning, and huge trees are coming down which indicate that the waters are reaching high levels in the country. It is reported that there is much damage done to the railway line at Otira and Reef ton, and the trains will be, interrupted as the . river is rapidly rising ' and is only two feet off the bank. i. The firebell w;ls rung at 10.45,Tonight to warn business men, resident in the lower part of the town, who are now busily engaged removing stock. There :is every- : indication i of the. business : portion of the town being flooded. IN Eire vessels are in port ■ and their masters are having an anxious vime owing to the boisterous weather. -.(Che. Jockey Chib’sground is under water and the'meeting has been post-poned-till Thursday. ■ hue Tioaing Club meeting will be held to-day weather permitting. ; ■
