CATTLE CLASSES. A better display of stock is seldom ever -seen than that exhibited annually at the Hawera Show, and worth while going a long way to see. The prize money is good in all classes \ and. for , dairy stock still further encouragement has this year been offered for the better qualities of good dairy cows. Amongst numerous special prizes, the solid silver -challenge cup presented by the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltcl., is a beautiful one. This cup will go to the exhibitor scoring the greatest number of points in the purebred Holstein, Jersey, and Ayrshire glasses, to bo won twice in succession before becoming the property of the exhibitor. . The classes will be unusually attractive tins year and the competition should be intensely keen. The champion butterfat competition will be of great interest again this year, and splendid paddock accommodation will be provided for exhibitors. A new class inaugurated will be that of the Lest cow for cheese-making with casein test combined. A similar competition held in Taranaki resulted in favour of the Jersey and the result of the Hawera competition will be awaited with interest. Both these competitions will be under the sunervision of the Dqiry Commissioners staff. A milk-testing competition open to farmers’ sons and daughters, public and high school students, is of educational value and good entrants are again anticipated. Intending exhibitors are reminded that entries close on the 28th October. Schedules may still be obtained from the secretary (Mr. Ff. G. Troweek), Hawera.
