A CHEAT RACE. Melbourne, October 21. After a cold 1 and wintry week, Cup Day of the V.A.T.C. meeting was favoured with bright sunshine.: The record attendance promised at the opening was maintained, for ■it was certainly the biggest Caulfield Cup crowd remembered. The gubernatorial party. included Lord and Lady Denman and the State Governor, both with large parties. Lady Medallist won the Caulfield Cup. Tho win was very popular. Sandbath was first to break the lino from Radiator, Flavian, Hartfell, Didus and Beggar. After a furlong, Twa Briggs took charge and led past the box from Didus, Beverage, Beggar, Hartfell, Lady Medallist and Indiscreet. Radiator nearly fell. Aurofodina was nearly laat'i.. Out of the straight Briggs led from Didus, Beverage, Indiscreet and Beggar. Indiscreet ran up into .second place at the mile post from Twa Briggs, Beverage, Hartfell, Flavian and Lady Medallist.' Indiscreet then took charge from Briggs, Prince Lack, Beverage, Didus, Radiator, Flavian and Lady Medallist. Indiscreet made a hot run along the railway side, Beverage being close up. Then came Lady Medallist, Didus, Aurofodina and Flavian. Hartfell interfered with Lady Medallist, who, however, led round the turn from Aurofodina, Sandbath making a good run outside, with Flavian handy. Lady Medallist led into the straight from Aurofodina, and finished in that order. Lady Medallist winning by six lengths, three lengths between the next two.
