TAHORA RIDING.
('to the Editor “Stratford Evening Post.”
Sir,—ln your issue of October 11th, Mi; McCutchan, in replying to “Skelly, is at some pains to clear himself or the charge of having designs on tne pockets of the Tahora ratepayers, in doing so, he generates an unnecessny amount of heat as is usually the case with that gentleman. Your correspondent charges mo with misrepresentation, etc., chiefly in, regard to making him appear at the September instead of the the August meeting of the Whanga County Council. A serious charge indeed, ‘but Mr McCutchan \\ ould not have fallen into that error had ho taken the trouble to look at tiie date on my letter, because at the time of writing ( it, I was right in referring r.o the August meeting as th.' “last meeting m uie A haiif .jin mona County Council.” In persuing his charges of misrepresentation, Mr McCutclian says lie didn’t ask for special rate to bo levied on the Tahora Riding for maintenance in the Central Riding—he only wanted Tahora’s ordinary rates. If Mr McCutchan was misrepresented there, it is no fault of mine, as 1 merely w'ent by the printed report of what the deputation asked lor. That report appeared in the “Stratford Post,” and if Mr McCutchan was misrepreported, why did he not ask for a correction? He will surely admit that if ho was misrepresented, it was in that report, and not in my letter. And so, Mr McCutchan will recognise that his charge of misrepresentation “is unfair doubly so when based upon mis-statement and ( misconception of the facts.’’. Personally I can’t see that it matters whether lie was misreported or not, whether ' he asked for a special or an extraspecial rate, whether he appeared at the August or the September meeting: Id makes no difference. Cloud the issue as he may, his object is the same. Tahora is to be made to pay, for the Main road in the Central Riding, and in the latter Riding Mr Mcr Cutchan’s chief interests lie. , Let him juggle figures and words as he will, lie cannot deny it. If “this business has within itself, -that, which-: must be rectified and no wrpng, but a Aull < mdasjire of < what 1 is.~just .will come to Tahora in the process,” then Mr McCutcjian has nothing to fear at the coming election, if he stqnds for Tahora. Gome now, ,Mr McCutchan here is a chance to, prove the above—a chance for fame.— i am, etc. SKELLY.. Hurimonana. 17th Oct., 1911.
