Taihape, October 20. Mr. F. F. Hockley, one of the Opposition candidates for Waimarino, opened his campaign last night with an address. He said he was a thorough supporter of the Reform Party. He made freehold his chief plank. Referring to the native land question, ho Characterised Sir James Carroll’s taihoa policy as astute, the object being to delay parting with the land until values were greatly enhanced. He contended that the time had arrived for a 1 change of Government. The usual vote of thanks was passed. MR. McCLUGgTgE’S CAMPAIGN. (By Telegraph.—Special to “Post.”) Te Wera, October 20. Mr. J. McCluggagc addressed the electors here last night. Although a wot night, the hall was filled. Mr. McAloon was voted to the chair, and in introducing the candidate, said that Mr. McCluggagc was well and personally known to most of them. The speech was on/the lines of his previous addresses. ‘ Ho received . a good hearing, and was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence, and confidence in the Government. A strong committee was formed, which consisted principally of farmers. APPEAL COURT. THE MASSEY LIBEL CASE. (Per Press Association.) ’Wellington, October 20. The Appeal Court to-day granted final leave to appeal to 'the Privy Council in the case Messey v. “N.Z. Times.”
