HIGH COMMISSIOER’S REPORT.

Wellington, October IG. Following is the High Commissioner’s cabled market report dated October 14th:—

Quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot:— Mutton.—The market is quiet with dull sale for all qualities, but holders are firm. Canterbury 4£d, North Island 3;, ! d. Lamb.—The market is weak on account of supplies of home-grown lamb being heavy, lowering prices of New Zealand lamb. Canterbury 5Jd, other than Canterbury sd, Scotch hill 43d. Beef.—The market is dull. There is little demand apd supplies are large. New Zealand' hinds 3Jd, New Zealand fores 2ld. Butter.—The market is rather quiet on account of high price. Buyers of butter are holding back, expecting prices to go lower. Danish 1465, Siberian 1275, Australian 1325. Cheese.—The market is quiet and prices are slightly weaker. Forward transactions in cheeso are very limited at present quotations hut future prospects are good. Canadian 69s 6d, English cheddar 86s. Hemp.—The market is quiet, hut moderate business is doing. New Zealand is firm at last quotations. Tho stock of New Zealand is 956 tons.
