The death occurred at New Plymouth yesterday of Mrs Smith, wife of Mr S I'ercy-Smith, cx-Surveyor-Goii 'red. Mrs Smith was a daughter of lie late Mr W. Morgan Crompton, who was an old settler of New Plymouth, and who always took a prominent part in the political life oi the district in the early days and was Speaker of the Provincial Council for a number of years. Mrs Smith came ml to New Zealand with her mother in 1853, Mr. Crompton having arrived hero throe years previously. She was married to‘Mr S. Percy-Smith in 1863.
