THE MONTH’S RAINFALL.

The past month was the driest September in Stratford since 1904, me total fall being 4.56 in., the average for the past eight years being b. 96, the falls ranging from 5.75 in. in 1908 to 12.31 in. in 1909. During the past month rain fell on eighteen days. The only falls over half an inch were as follows:—l3th .GBin., 17th .Glin., »24th .7Gin. On eight of the days when rain was recorded under a tenth of an inch was registered. Rain was continuous from the 10th to the 20th, 2.87 in. of the total fall being recorded on these days. At Riversdale, Inglewood, a total of s.2Gin. fell on seventeen days, the highest fall being i.Slin. on the 24th. Cheeseman, Curator of the Museum, the total amount of rainfall at Auckland for the month of September was 2.70 m., falling on eighteen days. The average fall for tiie month, calculated over a period of 41 years is 3.42, so that the figure for the month just past is some threequarters of an inch short of the average. 'The highest fall over recorded for the month of September was 7.10 in, in 1869; other heavy falls being 6.21 in. in 1902, and 5.82 in. in 1889. The smallest fall ever recorded for the same month was in 1901, when only .85in. fell, 'i he total rainfall for the year up to date lias amounted to 3i.23iu., against 45.11 in for last year, which was exceptionally wet.
