INSPECTION OF BUILDINGS. SEVERE STRICTURES.

At a meeting of the City Council last night severe strictures were passed on the district health officer regarding the- alleged superficial inspection by him of buildings condemned as unsanitary. The case of two houses in St. Albans, condemned recently, was cited, and the speaker alleged that after he had himself inspected them he was of opinion that they wore good for ten or fifteen years. He further alleged that the inspection was confined to the exteriors of buildings, and said it was scandalous and a shame that orders had been issued for their destruction.

Dr .Finch (district health officer), when seen by a reporter on the subject, said that he did not care to discuss the matter at present, save to cay that, ho would take steps to vindicate the good name of the departs mont. He did not know yet to which houses reference had been made. In reply to a question, he stated that the condition of a number of houses which had lately been condemned was brought under his notice by the inspectorial staff of the City Council.
