CABLE TO THE TRADE

(Per Press Association.) Auckland, October 2. Consequent upon the publication of a cablegram received by the Rev. Dawson announcing that the result or the Maine poll was a prohibition vie-, tory, the Council of the Trade Organisation 'in Auckland cabled to iNew York for specific details, and .received the following:—“S 7 oto for repeal of prohibition,. 60,481; against, 60^461 ; majority in favour or repeal of pro-, hibition, 20. All cities except one vote for repeal of prohibition. Goun'4 try districts vote against. PrqhibL' tionists have technical objection, .Official recount now being made. Final result will not be known until October 9th. Last referendum, in 1884 prohibition had a majority of 44,000, now converted into minority of 20. ’
