NOTES BY,'|HE WAY,
I Mr. J. McCluggago addressed a 1..' meeting at Ngaire last evening, Mr r Jas. Thomson occupying the chair. At i the close of. Mr McCluggago’s wldress, f which wap on similar lines to that delivered in other centres, a hearty vote of thanks to the candidate for his , able and interesting address, was accorded. A recent issue of the Patea Press” remarks:—“lf a candidate is incapable of conducting his campaign without indulging in personalities, then he certainly is not worthy of a place amongst/ the representatives of the people, it is pleasing to note that Mr. J. McCluggage, the Government candidate for Stratford who is well known throughout the Stratford district as a valuable member of the Taranaki Land Board and pioneer of land settlement in Taranaki, has. set A a splendid example, and one th.it B might be followed with advantage by W every candidate, throughout the Do- * minion. Speaking recently of the member, Mr.' J. B. Hiuo, Mr. McCluggage said “he was a fine fellow, and although they disagreed entirely on political questions, they had always been good friends, and he -I'd not intend to descend to anything in the nature of personalities during his electioneering campaign.” This is exactly as it should be, and we have no doubt that the manly utterance ot Mr. M'Cluggage will gain for him increased. admiration among his supporters, and the additional respect of those whq do not see eye to eye with him politically.”
