ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

(Per Press Association.) Westport, September 21. A search for the bodies of Timothy Corby, contractor, and Thos. Low, employee, who wore killed by a blast on the railway construction works in tho Bullcr Gorge about midday to-day, failed to bring any other trace" than more fragments on the rocks and trees on tho river bank. One eye-witness stated he saw a coated body, believed to be Corby, fly through the air and descend into the river.. Nothing was seen of the other at the time the accident occurred. Tho men were engaged in connecting up a slow to a rapid fuse. Apparently the gelignite in ono of the holes went off, some 50 tons of stone being dislodged. Mr Corby was one of tho best, known men in tho district, being a member of the Bailor County Council for four years, and for some time its chairman. a member of the Westport Horbour Board and Buller Hospital Board, and of various other public bodies. With Mr Foster he had only recently accepted a contract on the harbour works at Motueka for a sura totalling close on £20,000. Ho leaves a widow and six of a family. Low .was a single man, a native of Allendale, Victoria.
