Practically all the best horses in Victoria, Queensland, and New Zealand have arrived to take part in the spring meeting. There is a prospect tnat it will bo the best racing seen nore. AVONDALE RACES. EIRST~DAY. (Per Press Association.} Auckland, September 20. The following events were run after wo went to press yesterday:— First Handicap Hurdles.—Regain 1, Don Quex 2, Hoanga 3. All started. Won by four lengths. Avondale Cup.—Sedition 1, Master Wairiki 2, Sea Elf 3. All started. Aon by two lengths. Handicap Steeplechase.—Hunakalia 1, Seldom 2, Kapakapa 3. Scratched; Atawhai, St. Wood, Mavourneen. Won by a neck. Hautero and Pleiades fell. Islington Handicap.—Captain Soult 1, St. Amans 2, Master Jack 3. Won by half a length. Flying Stakes Handicap.—Jack Delaval 1, Elcctrakoff 2, Turbine 3. Won by two lengths.

The foilwing weights have been declared for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting;— Putiki Hack, six furlongs.—Sandy, Paul and Gold Battery 9.9, Birkline 9.3, Master Sylvia 9.2, Shuja 9.0, Taft 8.13, Miscal 8.10, Labour Day 8.6 Allurement S.o, Brilliancy and Sam Pan 8.1, Patriotic, Fleet 'Week, Aruake, and Monologue 7.13, Katua and Eiya 7.10, Big Blast 7.9, Ebonite 7.8, Mortite 7.4,' Lady Fran 7.3, Bonnie Boy 7.2, Minora 7.1, Compliment, Grey Coat, Praejectus, Bonnie Lass, Adare, Maori Maid, Mararna, Tobias, Allnar and Lady Jean 7.0. Gonville Hurdles, one mile five furlongs.—Enroco 12.7, Oxton 11.9, Eiya 11.3, Hawick 11.1, Captain Bell 10.10, Merry Lawn 10.9, Irish Rifle 10.4, Koran 10.3, Dogger Bank 9.13, Tina Toa 9.12, Te Roti 9.10, Stratmcira 9.9, Highdcn 9.1, Royal Patron, Mitehau, Inveran, Surmount, Onslow Park, and Prince Hassan 9.0., TARANAKI METROPOLITAN COMMITTEE. The Taranaki Metropolitan Commitloo met on Tuesday night. The Egmont Racing Club’s programme for February 7 and 8 next was approved. . , T. James was granted a trainer’s license. L. Jones and H. Goldfinch were granted apprentices’ licenses, and W. W. Awdry was granted a gentleman rider’s certificate. It was decided to meet on October 2nd to consider the decision of the Egmont Racing Club concerning R. Barlow’s riding of Master Sylvia and Barlow’s appeal against the decision. TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB. A meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held subsequently. The programme committee furnished a report showing an increase in stakes of £l7O. Several adjustments were made in connection with the amount of stake money.to be paid to the second horse, and is was also decided to declare an acceptance in the scurry races. It was resolved to subscribe to the funds of the New Zealand Sports Protection League in terms of the letter received from the conference. The question of installing the silent totalisator was discussed, and it was reported that arrangements were being completed to have the machine installed in time for the Christmas meeting. The architect- has been instructed to have the present tote house altered in such a way as it will house the new machine. The secretary was instructed to write Messrs. Neylon and Spriggins, thanking them for past services to the club in the matter of working the tote and advising them that the club was now installing a machine of its own.
