RAIN AND SNOW IN THE SOUTH. (Par Press Association.) Timaru, September 18. About half an inch of rain had fallen to 9 a.m., and a good deal more has fallen , to-day. To-night-a cold blust r ...south-easterly prevailed. Ono inch of snow fell at Fairlio and Burke’s Pass (where it is still falling), and two ti three inches at Tekapo and Balnoral, whilst the Hermitage had a heavy fall, eighteen inches lying there. There is no sign of a change, and the mid and the wet will, it is feared, he destructive to lambs. STORMS IN NELSON. Nelson, September 18. Heavy rain has fallen steadily since Sunday night, and all rivers are in high flood. Coastal shipping has been somewhat dislocated by the bad weather. Communication with the up country stations is cut off by washouts on the railway. WATRAU IN FLOOD. Blenheim, September 18. As a result of tho heavy rain on .Sunday and to-day the Wairau river is flooded, and its tributaries are carrying a large quantity. The Nelson coach was an hour and a half late arriving at Bldnheim, and the driver reports that in one place the water entered tho coach. There is no danger •of Blenheim being flooded provided the Taylor river does not rise unduly. COLD IN OAMARU. Oaraaru, September 19. After the heavy rain the weather was bitterly cold this morning. Sleet and slight snow showers have fallen on the lower levels. The Government Meteorologist telegraphed this afternoon Southerly heavy winds to gale; weather probably cool and changeable; rain probable, and probably a very cold night; glass rise.
