SUPREME COURT.

GISBORNE SESSIONS. (Ror Press Association.) Gisborne September 18. At Hio Supreme Court to-day before Mr. Justice Chapman, Alfred Burnicle alias Pearce/ alias Barniclo, was found guilty of assaulting and robbing with violence one Jas. Kannawe. There are fourteen previous convictions against the accused, who was sentenced to twelve months’ hard labour and ordered to be detained for four years for reformative treatment. The case

is proceeding in which George Brown, Thomas Habgood, and Henry Charles Stewart are charged with having entered the dwelling of a widow, Caroline Broadhurst, at night, and demanding food with intent to steal it. Brown is also charged with assaulting tho woman. “No bills” were returned in the case of Win. Priestly, for alleged wounding of a- cow, and James Kerr Easton, for alleged manslaughter.

THE SEPTEMBER CALENDER. The Supreme Court sessions opens to—morrow before Mr. Justice Sim. Tho calender is as under. CRIMINAL. Rex v. Nicholas Albert Maddren (Eltham), arson at Finnerty road. • Rex v. George Henry Clarry (Eltham) carnally knowing a girl under 10 years. FOR SENTENCE. James Percy Williamson, alias Wiliams, for theft of a bicycle at Midhirst, and forging and uttering a cheque at Etham. A'illiam Renata, theft of a cheque form, forging and endorsing it at Rahotu. CIVIL BUSINESS. Quin Bros. v. South Taranaki Winter Show Co., Ltd., and Robert William and Bond’s trustees claim under the Wages Protection and' Contactors’ Liens Act, 1908, for £486 IGs 7d. Adjourned from previous sessions. Bennet and Sutton v. the same defendants, for £303 12s 4d. a similiar claim, also adjourned from last sessions. Joseph Henry Slight v. Charles Arnold and Lucy Hannah Arnold, claim for £219 9s 6d, being refund of deposit of £SO, paid under agreement for sale of land and stock, and £230 13s 2d for loss and damage suffered by tho rescission of the agreement. Public Trustee v. Thomas Hastio and Jessie Eva Hastie, claim for £3014 7s and interest owing under mortgage, and for further sums expended on account of defendant in rent, taxes, etc. Frederick George Smith v. Elizabeth Jane Theobald, specific performance of an agreement to exchange properties. William Humphries v. The Westport Coal Co., Ltd., claim for £IOOO for personal injuries sustained through being knocked down and run over by dedefant’s horse and cart. (A similar claim appeared on the list of business for last sessions, but the case was discontinued and a fresh writ issued. George Morton v. Blonnerhassett and Sons, claim for £250 deposit held as stakeholders in respect of an agreement for sale and purchase which has net been carried out. . Walter Revell Colson James, v. tho executors of the will of Mary James, originating summons of an order under part 2 of “The Family Protection Act, 1908.” Plaintiff claims that his wife made a will leaving him inadequate means of support, and seeks an order for £3 a week or for such amount as tho Court thinks lit. DIVORCE.

Charles Anderson Wilkinson v. Mary Christiana Wilkinson, dissolution of marriage on tho ground of adultery. IN CHAMBERS. In tho matter of the Law Practitioners’ Act and ro Walter Wilkes; a motion to make absolute a decree nisi striking Wilkes off tho roll of soliciors. BANKRUPTCY. Motions for tho discharge of tho following bankrupts :—Percy Russell Wilkinson, land agent, late of Hawera; Charles Salmon Smith, tailor, Havvera; Thomas Reginald Surrey, cattle dealer, Hawora; Charles Henry Ellis, gardener, Stratford; and James H. Wood and Michael Zemba, bootmakers, New Plymouth. ARBITRATION COURT. Tho Arbitration Court will sit at the conclusion of tho Supreme Court business, and the following cases will bo hoard:— Mansell James Jones v. New Plymouth Harbour Board, claim for compensation for accident. John Maloney v. tho King, claim for compensation for accident. Add Supremo Court.
