CARDIFF NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) As regards church matters, Wednesday, 13th, was a red-letter day. On that date his Lordship the Bishop of Auckland (Dr. Crossley), in company with the Vicar (the Rev. W. A. Butler) paid a visit to Cardiff, arriving at the church, which was nicely decorated, for the occasion, at 2 p.in. The Bishop preached a most eloquent sermon, the service throughout being very impressive, after which an adjournment was made to the residence of Mr. J. T. Balcher, where the ladies had provided afternoon tea, and where the distinguished visitor and the congregation spent a very pleasant afternoon together. His Lordship left for Stratford about 5 p.m., after expressing himself as well pleased with his visit here. Everything in the garden is lovely just now. The recent good rain has put heart into the farmers, and there is a great stir among the bovines. The local factory is making butter at present, but on the 20th will switch on to cheese, the season’s output of which has been sold at what is considered a satisfactory price, and the prospects for a good season are very encouraging.
