SCHOOLBOYS’ STRIKE.
FORCE OF EXAMPLE. , London, September 12. The County Council school children at Shoreditch, Islington, and Deptford struck, demanding a Wednesday half-holiday,, a penny a week for monitors, and the abolition of the cane. The strikers picketed seven schools, and persuaded the other scholars to join. The police prevented them from splashing the windows. The boys .at several North Manchester schools; processioned the streets, demanding shorter hours and the abolition of the cane. The picket forcibly prevented the entrance to school yards. Stones were thrown at “blackleg” children. The mothers intervened and the strike partially collapsed. (Received 13, 11.40 a.m.) London, September 12. The presence of police at Shoreditch and Islington schools prevented a renewal of the scholars’ strike.
