A QUESTION ASKED.
(To the. Editor “Stratford Post.”) Sir,-—Amongst other extraordinary statements contained in a remarkable letter signed “Comrnonsense” which appeared in your issue of yesterday (with which, I was pleased to note, you dealt in a proper manner) was one to the effect that prominent men had sold out' of business in Stratford, having presumably seen disaster coming. I should like to know who those prominent men were. I certainly remember one prominent man selling out, but he sold to local residents and it was well-known that he had made a comfortable fortune. The only other business in Stratford worth speaking about which lias been sold out was disposed of by the owner to enable him to engage in dairy farming in the district.' In this instance it docs not appear that the gentleman who sold out was particularly afraid of tho outlook for the farming industry, and his successor was a local resident and the son of a prominent local business man! These facts surely speak.—l am, etc., W. S. CATO. August Bth, 1911.
