CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. (Per Press Association.) •Wanganui, September 7. Tho golf championship was continued this morning on tno Wanganui Club’ls links in ideal golfing weather, and with a very large attendance. Great interest was taken in tlie play, largo numbers following the more prominent players in their rounds. Professional Championship . In the second round, J. A. Clements boat I). McCormick, 2 up and 1 to play. Clements easily outclassed his opponent, although tiio scores only show 2 up and 1 to play, McCormick never being really in it. J. Watt beat W. B. Simpson, 2 up and 1 to play. This game was very close, some really excellent play being soon, several present considering the match one of the best of the day. Both men played sterling golf. E. G. .Hood beat G. Hood, 2 up and 1 to play. The driving of E. Hood was _ very bad, but bis putting was brilliant. G. Hood was excellent, both off the tec and through the game, but his putting was faulty. This was a very good game. W. McEwen beat IT. Stewart, 4 up and 2 to play. Considerable interest attached to this match,'particularly as the local player, who had hitherto been off colour, was coming right on his game. Both men played splendidly, but AlcEwen was the more consistent. Amateur Championship. Second Round. A. Duncan boat J. Forbes, 3 up and 1 to play. , Kapi Tareha beat B. L. Taylor, 4 up and 3 to play. A. L. :D. Kidstone beat C. W. Rattray, 2 ini and 1 to play. Kuropo Tareha boat iv. Duncan, 6 up and o to nlaj*. J. C. Burns beat H. E. Wright, 2 up and 1 to play. H. B. Lusk boat A. H. Lewis, 1 up at tho 19th hole. G.. N. Dpdgshun beat H. M. Buttorworth, 2 up and 1 to play. C. St. G. Gore beat R. H. Balncavis, 2 up and 1 to play. All the games in this round wore excellent, the golf being of a very high standard. A. Duncan and J. Forbos had a good round, but the open championship was too good. Kapi Tareha, who is playing brilliantly, and is at tho very top of Ins game,_ easily disposed of B. L. Taylor. Kuropo Tareha is also playing well, and played an excellent round with K. Duncan. Dodgshun, who has been playing splendidly, effected a surprise by boating Butterworth, but tho victory was well deserved.

One of the best rounds played in tho amateur championship eventuated this morning, when A. 11. Lewis and B. H. Lusk, tho present amateur champion, met. Lewis took tho first three holes, taking a very pretty four at tho second. The fourth was baulked, Lewis missing a short putt. Lusk won the fifth and sixth. At the seventh a very fine brassio shot on to tho green by Lewis enabled him to get a half. Tho eighth was halved, and Lusk won tho ninth in four. They were thus all square at tho turn. The tenth (Long Tom), 548 ft., was halved in six, and the next in three each. At tho 12th Lewis put his second into tho rushes, and Lusk won in four, thus putting him 1 up. Tho 13th and 14th wore halved, but Lewis won the 15th, thus making them all square. Tho 16th was halved. A very pretty three by Lusk at tho 17th put him in front again, and ho halved the last, thus winning a most interesting game by 1 up. Foursoma Bogey. Tho afternoon was devoted to the foursome bogey, which was won by Trolove and Forbes, 5 up. The best of the other cards handed in were:— Fisher and Seymour 2 up, Lusk and Nicoll 2 up, Lutterworth and Godby 2 up, Kidstono and Balncavis 1 up, Taylor and Bartlett 1 down. Moldrum and Goss 1 down, Gordon and Pliarazyn 2 down, Seifert and Trill 2 down, Hales and K. Duncan 2 down, Lewis and Ritchie 2 down. , Bogey Handicap. The Bogey Handicap resulted: — Kapi Taroha (owe) 4 up, A. 11. Nicoll (10) 2 up, C. St. G. Gore (4), 1 up, G. Saunders (scr), all square, J. Forbes (scr) all square.
