AN INTERESTING INCIDENT.

At the Invosture of the Prince of Wales at Carnarvon an interesting incident occurred which escaped general notice. When the Prince’s procession was just about to enter the courtyard of the Castle, the Karl Marshal (the Duke of Norfolk) approached the Mayor of Chester and requested his aid. The State Sword, said the Duke, had hy some mischance i ailed to arrive, and lie asked if ho might • borrow the ancient sword of the city of Chester to be carried in front oi the King. Immediately acceding to the request, the Mayor said ho would lend the sword with, pleasure, hut that, the representatives of Chester would like to carry it lust themselves in !• out of the Prince up to the dais. 11 the Duke would send an officer for it I r. would hand it. over to him. The Mayor ’ further remarked that the sword was an ancient one given by Henry Vi I. in the year 150(5. Accordingly the city sword, after being

carried before the Prince, was used ir their Majesty’s procession, being carried as the Sword of State by Earl Beauchamp before the King. Later, Lord Beauchamp called upon the Mayor at the Town Hall, Chester, and tendered Ids thanks for the use oi the sword, expressing the opinion that no more fitting sword than that ol the city of Chester could have been used at the investing oi the Earl ol Chester as Prince of Wales.
