Following is the High Commissioner’s cable dated London, September 2nd (quotations unless otherwise spaj eified are average market prices 'on I spot):— Mutton.—-The market is quiet and is unfavourably affected by largtf arrivals .arid low prices of chilled beef. Canterbury '3-Jd,‘ North island 3gd. Lamb.—The market is steady, with good demand for all lamb. The stock lis moderate. Canterbury G.Jd, other than Canterbury, sd. Beef.—The market is very dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large and are selling at hinds 3gd, fores 2id. Butter.—The market is quieter. Supplies that were not obtainabv here on account of the strike are now available. Australian 120 s, Danish 1325, Siberian 100 s. Cheese.—The market, is firm at the advance. New Zealand GOs. Supplies of New Zealand cheese are nearly exhausted. Cheese prospects for next season are encouraging. Hemp.—The market continues dull. Now Zealand good firm on spot per ton £l9 10s, fair grade £l9, fair current Manila £2O, forward shipment Now Zealand good fair £2O, fair grade £l9, fair current Manila £2O. The output from Manila for the week was 15,000 bales. Kauri Gum.—Dark-brown selected re-scraped £6 to £8 7s fid, dark-brown 'three-quarter scraped 80s to 955, darkbrown chips (drossy) 35s to 455, rcscraped pale amber £lO to £l2, threequarter pale scraped £8 to £9, diggers’ chips (good) 90s to £6 7s fid. Wool.—The market is strong for merinos and fine crossbreds, all grades. The market is-a shade weaker for coarse crossbreds, all grades.
