TARANAKI v. AUCKLAND. “A Player” writes to the “Nr-vs” as follows:—I notice in your issue of the 31st ult. that the above match is to take place at Nb.v Plymouth on the 21st inst. It therefore behoves all players with any chances of representative honours to go into hard practice at once, as Auckland will no doubt be represented (as they usually are) by a very strong team. The Taranaki team which played Wanganui last month wore without doubt feeling the effects of the trial match which took place’the day previously, and this in a measure accounted for their poor display. At the same time, the writer tlii'nks that a stronger team could have boon sent to Wanganui, and suggests that the following would lie an improved representative team. Goalkeeper, Stevens; backs, Anderson, Curtis; halves, Bassett, Harris, or Thompson, McDougall; forwards, Fryer, Hutton, Sargent, Sago, Griffiths. Emergencies: Backs, Hislop; forward, Priest. I would respectfully suggest to the selectors that the team be chosen at once, and that they leservo the right to alter it if it is found that members arc not training.
