THE PORTUGUESE ROYALTY. Lisbon, August 31. Tho Finance Council is revising the indebtedness of the Royal Family, and the estimate does not exceed £90,000. RUSSIAN STRIKES. Lodz have struck. EPIDEMIC OF HYDROPHOBIA. St. Petersburg, August 31. There is an epidemic of hydrophobia in several industrial districts of Poland. Fifty persons were bitten at Sosnoebuz and fifty-two at Siedlcc. They were conveyed to the Pasteur Institute at Warsaw. HEAVY RAIN IN INDIA. Calcutta, August 31. Heavy rain has fallen in Kathiawar, rain has also fallen in the Punjab East Geyerat, and South Rajputana. NAVAL DESERTIONS. (Received 1, 8.45 a.m.) Ottawa, August 31. There have been numerous desertions from the cruiser Rainbow, stationed on the Pacific coast. The rates of pay are lower than those offered ashore. ; ’MISSING LOUVRE PICTURE. i New York, August 31. Tho Collector of Customs declares .that an American are connoisseur, who is en route to the United States, is suspected of being concerned in tho picture theft at tho Louvre. WIRELESS MESSAGES. New York, August 31. The Superior Court at Los Angeles sustained the defence of a newspaper publisher charged with having published- the contents of an intercepted wireless message. The Judge held that the law against divulging the contents of aerograms applied only to the employees and officers of telegraph companies. MEXICAN PRESIDENCY.
