SUPREME COURT.

THE WHARF THEFTS,

A CONFESSION PROMISED. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, August 30. In the wharf pilfering cases before the Supreme Court, Joseph Ehrman pleaded guilty to ten separate charges of theft from the wharves, involving about £SOO worth of goods, the property of nine merchants; also guilty to charges of false pretences and escaping from custody, as well as three other charges, in conjunction with Arthur Glover, and John Mclntyre, the two latter pleading not guilty. Counsel for Ehrman promised a candid and full statement of the whole position later, Sentence was deferred. Arthur Glover pleaded not guilty to charges of having stolen three oases of drapery, the property of Milne and Choyce, and with having forged a telegram purporting to lie an authority or request for delivery of the goods, and of having sent a false telegram purporting to be signed by ‘‘A. Tanficld.” The jury, after deliberating for several hours, returned with a verdict of guilty on the counts charging the prisoner with having forged the telegram and having sent a false telegram, and not guilty on the counts charging theft and receiving. The jury also found that since the date of the sending of the telegram the prisoner had acted in collusion with Ehrman. Eentence was deferred. NOT GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER. Invercargill, August 30. The jury, after three and a half hours’ retirement, found a ve>-diet-of not guilty.
