OIL LAUNCH BURNED.

NARROW ESCAPE OF WHALERS. (Per Press Association.) Blenheim, August 23. Early this morning the whaling launch owned by J ■ Pear us and Co., of Ticton, was tot any destroyed by fire in Queen Charlotte Sound. The launch was beached last night for purposes of cleaning and overhauling. On one of the occupants lighting a lantern preparatory to beginning operations, the benzine ignited. This •was followed by an explosion of dynamite, and the three men were hurled some distance along the beach. One, named George Baxter, received painful burns. The boat was blown to atoms, and everything lost, including the whaling gear. 1 iio loss is estimated at close on £BOO.
