CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.
END OF A Oil INK.INC BOUT. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 21. A man named .John Viilham .Long died in his hod early this morning in a house in Sagos’ Lane, oft' Tory street. An inquest was held, and an autopsy performed by Dr. Fyffe. Ho discovered a fracture of the skull on the right side of the head above the car. The inquest consequently was not gone on with, the only evidence taken being that of the identification of the body. Long had been drinking, and sonic time prior to four o’clock this morning something happened in the backyard, the result being that lie was carried upstairs to Ins bod. William Francis Dowman, a labourer, has been arrested on the charge that lie did unlawfully kill Long. This really means manslaughter, but it is open to , the 1 police to prefer a charge of murder against Dowman should circumstances warrant it. Dowman will bo brought before the court to-morrow morning.
