TAYLOR MEMORIAL FUND.
PUBLIC MEETING. A public meeting was held in tho Borough Council Chamber last night to decide what should Ire done in connection with the proposal to raise a fund to erect a memorial to tiro late Mr. T. E. Taylor. Tho. Mayor (Mr. J. Masters) presided. TJ io Mayor said that although every body may not have agreed with Mr. Taylor dining his lifetime, it was pretty well agreed since his death that be had done a great deal of good for tho Dominion. Mr. Taylor had neglected ids own private business in favour of tho business of tho Dominion, and therefore it was necessary to do something for those ho had left behind, He would suggest that a committee bo set up to press tho matter., Mr. P. Skoglund was elected secretary and treasurer of the fund. Mr. J. McAllister said there were a great many personal friends of Mr. Taylor in the district, and there were also those who recognised him as a good politician. People might say that there were too many local calls cJn the purse, but he hoped people would recognise the matter as a national one and would contribute on that assumption.
The following collectors wore appointed : —Messrs. McAllister, Richards, Rawles, Robinson, J. Masters, Foster, T. D. Sullivan, J. W. Boon, George Smith, and F. Kcightley (Midhirst) ; Mr. Kennedy (Toko); Mr. Bradley and Mr. Joseph McCluggage (Whangamomona). It was decided that the next meeting bo held on September 12.
