»Per Press Association.) Carterton, August 18. An inquest was held yesterday, before Mr J. T. M. Hornsby (coroner), on the body of Fanny Frances Goodin, who had been drowned in a creek at Dalelield. Deceased, aged 66, the wife of Robert Goodin, farmer, Dalefield, had wandered into a shallow creek and drowned herself in six inches of water. A verdict was returned of suicide while temporarily insane. AUCKLAND WHARF THEFTS. o (Per Press Association.). Auckland, August IS. Ehrman was committed for trial today on further charges arising out of the wharf thefts. Rail was refused. Ehrman made a voluntary statement through his solicitor, that Mr Glover was- not connected in any way with the matters with which he (Ehrman) was charged. ’ The detective who arrested Ehrman after his escape from custody at To Kuiti stated that Ehrman said: “There will be something sensational out of this. lam not going to take all the blame. Ah Loy was fined £SO, in ■ default six months’ imprisonment, for having opium in his possession. Owing to the difficulty in getting opium, the police stated that the Chinese were now resorting to evaporate laudnum, to a condition suitable for smoking.
