HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT, (Per Press Association) Wellington, August 1-1. The High Commissioner cables under date London, August 12th (quotations, unless otlierwi.se specified, being average market price on spot) : —- General.—This week everything is at a standstill on account of the strike of the. transport rami carrying trade. No ships are unloaded, and it was practically impossible to deliver from adores. Conditions improved yesterday when the strike’ terminated, and work will lie resumed on Monday. Prices are irregular. Butter.—Tho market is firmer. There is no change in tho weather. Rain -is badly needed. Danish 12Gs, Australian. 4125, .Siberian 110 s. Cheese.—The market remains firm. New Zealand stocks are exhausted. Hemp.—-The. market is lifeless. Wool.-—The market is quiet, hut firm. Tho Government Meteorologist telegraphed to-day: Westerly moderate to strong winds, freshening; expect unsettled and cloudy weather; rain probable; glass fall slowly.
