DEATH OF ELSIE HOLLAND
SENSATIONAL EVIDENCE. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, August 10. There was some sensational evidence in connection with the death of Elsie Holland in tin? charge against James O'Saaughnessy, Jane Hartley, Charlotte Campbell and Mary Hassell, who are charged with being accessories after the fact. Elizabeth Sindlin deposed that in conversation with Mrs. Campbell, Mrs. Hassell and Miss Duggan, after the death of Elsie Holland, Mrs. Campbell said they had got into a dirty mess, that Mrs. Hassell put a tabloid in the girl’s mouth, and Mrs. O’Siiaughnessy did the operation. Mrs Campbell further said that the tabloids were put into the girl’s mouth to make people think she had poisoned herself. The Dench considered that there was no case against Mrs. Hartley, who accordingly was discharged. The other accused were committed for trial, bail being granted, which was forthcoming in the cases of O’Shaughnossv and Mrs. Hassell only.
